Fantasy Fanspace

I see that some of us on here are fantasy artists! I was wondering if anyone could offer their advice, experience, and knowledge in finding a successful outlet for you work. I've had little success at getting my work shown, mostly due to lack of time. Now I have all the time in the world and am ready to go full-time as an artist and designer (unless a miracle happens in my job hunt).

How do you approach galleries? What type of galleries are open to fantasy art? Do you have an agent, or go crazy like I do trying to promote your own work? All I see in galleries around me are contemporary black and white "street" photography and traditional paintings. Sometimes I wish I could open my own gallery and boutique, showcasing fantasy art and crafts by hard-working artists. That's the ultimate dream..but for now, I need to have my work seen by someone other than me and the Internet!

This weekend I had a few pieces displayed in my cousin's booth at FenCon (Texas). Not sure if they went over well or not, because I couldn't afford to travel there. She suggested submitting more work to other fantasy/sci-fi conventions, which I've been trying to search for (not finding many that will take mail-ins).

Eventually I'd love to be at the point where I can afford to travel around the country to attend conventions, medieval/renaissance faires, and other interesting events where my work would fit in. But for now I go nuts on the Internet searching , emailing, designing websites and promotional graphics, social networking, bookmarking, etc..etc..., trying to get somewhere with my plans. Anyone else in the same situation?

I must check that place out! It sounds like a little shop back home called the Enchanted Grove, except the owner didn't show local work. So maybe this place will be my break into the Seattle art scene :D Thanks!

This is rather random and maybe not what you are looking for, but have you thought about setting up shop on etsy??? It might help get a bit more exposure out there at the very least. They do have fees (which are posted on their faq). I have a friend that has done rather well for herself selling her hand-dyed yarn there.

It's all for handmande things, but there are alot of digital artists and just about everything you can imagine on there. Maybe there's a fantasy etsy somewhere out there in cyberspace..

Keep working at it! Your work is stunning! =)

I did open an Etsy shop but it's been way down on my priority list since I don't have the time to get in there and be active on the forums (which is how you get sales, really). I started it as a place to sell my jewelry back when I had more time for experimenting with that medium, but this has also fallen far down on my list :( But you can check it out here to see the few things I have up for sale! http://catarionna.etsy.com
