What novel have you just finished and what did you think of it?

I just finished the Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu. I really liked it. I thought it was a supernatural romance novel which is not my area of choice when reading. However I must say the romance part was very small and the book was very good!

The heroine was understandable and easy to root for and care about. The overall all concepts were very much out of the normal realms. No vampires or werewolves. Just demon tattoos and a young girl who misses her mom and feels in over her head about trying to save the world.

Overall I would say this one is a winner. :)

I wanted something different to read, so I went back to a novel written in the 1880's -- "She", by H. Rider Haggard. This is Fantasy wrapped in 'reality', as the descriptions of the African Continent (with some minor liberties) were based on Mr Haggard's personal observations during his treks there for hunting safaris. Of course, it seems quite different from the fiction of today's authors, written more in the style of a personal journal than the 'novel' we think of today. Yet the story itself is fascinating -- the dozens of 'personal asides', while in no way advancing the plot of the novel, still give a sense of what life on a safari trek of the time was like. The Fantasy elements -- a 'White Queen' who has lived for millenia, ruling the tribesmen of Africa from within a Volcano -- are well-thought-out, and the conclusion was far from what was originally expected.

Sounds like this one is a must add to my reading list. For some reason it brings to mind some Doc Savage stories I loved. I need to find them and reread them also. So many books so little time.

I both started and finished Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead in one day. I loved this book and being stuck at work for 12 hours and it being super slow I whipped through it.

Richelle has put together a really great world. You can totally believe that the vampires in this would could exist and live with us.

I rate it a winner.

The last novel I finished was Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I was one of the people who loved it! I thought it was so much better and darker than the rest of the books. I wasn't too Psyched about the Jacob section, but I realize that the book would have been terrible if she hadn't done it that way. For those of you reading this that don't know what the Twilight Saga is, get out and go read it! It's loads of fun and has a huge fandom if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm about to finish Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline Carey. It's the second book in a great series from the perspective of a prostitute, turned spy. It's delightfully erotic at times, but tastefully so. It also deals with a lot of political intrigue with a nice splash of fantasy elements to make it even more enchanting.

I just finished "The Last Vampire" by Marie (Maria?) Rosemoor and Marc .... dang my brain fails me yet again. Anyway it is different than most vampire books, yet I like it because of that. A bit adult in places and mixed in with a bit of the Mack Bolan series I used to read. The end was left open for another book in a big way, yet I don't begrudge them that, they did tie up most of the loose ends in a way that I liked. Also a writer has to make a living and a series is more fun for me as a reader. I will get Marc name and post it later, he deserves credit even if my brain is fried.

This one is a winner for me. It doesn't match up with say Twilight or Vampire Academy in tone so if you want more of that style it may not be for you.

Okay The Last Vampire was written by Patricia Rosemoor and Marc Paoletti. Sorry about being brain dead earlier.

I just finished The Gypsy Morph by Terry Brooks. Loved it! If you are a fan of the series and haven't read it - go get it! =)

Otherwise, it is the third in a trilogy from the Word and Void series. I highly recommend them. Think postapocalyptic world with magic - can anything be cooler?

I didn't want to read the Word and Void for quite awhile since when Brooks first came out with Running with the Demon, it scared me a bit more than I wanted to deal with. The feeders are freaky! This year I finally decided, after a little arm twisting by a friend, to give it a whirl and blasted through the first books in a week. Totally captivating and made more so to me as especially the second trilogy is set in the Northwest (my homeland).

I'm on the first book of the High Druid series right now, so I have a while to go before I get to Gypsy Morph unfortunately.

I loved Word/Void! I read it back when I lived in Michigan though. I should read it now that I live in the Northwest. I really wish he would write more of them, but it doesn't look like he's planning to until at least 2014. At least that's what it says on his timeline on his website. I love Shannara and all, but I really want more Word/Void.

I know what you mean, though I am fairly interested in the next Landover novel. I adore Word and the Void and I especially love all the Northwest references in it now. Reminds of me the future homeland. =)

Yeah, I really want the next Landover book as well. I need to read a good synopsis of them again to really get excited for it.

synopsis, smnopsis,... just read them again, they are a super easy read. =P

I just finished them all recently, but know I'll read them again before the next book. Otherwise, there's always the discussion board on Terry's site. =)

hehe that's what I'm always telling him "Just read them again" about LOTS of things but he never reads anything twice.

Stubborn butt. :P
