Fantasy Fanspace

I just put my fantasy art gallery on a web-ring (thanks Mousie.) I've been trying to get my website noticed, with marginal success. I can't make any money off of the website due to restrictions by the artists. So, my only motive is to share all of the great art I have found in one place, and give links to the original artist. It is interesting to see how many people visit my site daily. On Nov. 2, after a couple of reviews on Stumble Upon (thanks Mousie and Faith) my site got over 100 hits in one day. Now, that may not seem like much, but it is up from the less than 10 per day.

So here is my question: How do you get your own website out there? Who do you network with?

That gives me hope! :)
I have found we fantasy lovers tend to stick together. It amazes me how many people I recognize when I visit a new forum or social group. I'll update you on my progress after I've been on the webring for a while.

Ooh, what web ring is this? I'm only at about 10 hits per day on my fantasy art site, as well...and the sad thing is I have a degree in E-Marketing! I've done a lot of promoting, SEO, posting links, reciprocal linking, joining networks and directories, but it never seems to be enough. So maybe a web ring will help :)

If you go to Amy's site I believe the webring they are talking about is on the main page.

Yes, that's the easiest way to get to it. The link is near the top of the home page. It takes a while for them to approve, I don't even know if I am approved yet. But it is a ring specific to fantasy art. Can't get much more relevant than that. ;)

I don't know if this would help or not, but what about joining a site like etsy.com where artists and others come together.. it's free to join and you could also blog your art on there or elsewhere too I imagine...

They do have a whole section on art and are all over the country.

The etsy forums might be a good place to talk about art, that's a good idea! The etsy forums have lots of promo threads.

Are you on Twitter? You can post whenever you have updates on your site. You can also feel free to post short blog posts on here when you update your site.

I've heard about Twitter, but don't know anything about it. I'll have to check it out. Thanks guys!!

twitter.com.

Twitter is "micro blogging" , you write 140 characters in a post. I'm http://twitter.com/fantasyislove - if you have any questions about how to use it let me know!

Basically above the box it says "what are you doing" and you talk about what you're doing, you post links to cool things you find, etc. @username is used to reply to someone, or you can direct message them-the @username replies are shown in your public stream. When you friend someone you "follow" them, and they don't have to follow you back.

Hope that helps a bit :)

I thought Twitter was sooo silly, but now kinda addicted. And somehow Faith found me on there, and that's how I found this joint and all you cool fellow fantasy fans.

I know the internet landscape has changed with blogs and social networking. But, honestly (and I have been online a loooong time) ... you just have to be patient and update your site daily, if humanly possible. Submit your sitemap, make sure your meta tags are all in place. And never give up ... longevity is the key for a successful website.

Oh ... and I hate web-rings ... never use em.

Twitter still does seem pretty silly, ha, but I find myself becoming more addicted all the time. A number of people on here found this site through my twitter, I believe :) I like how easy it is to keep in touch with people through Twitter and follow people's lives, and I really love it when people share the things they find on the internet.

I am not a big fan of spending a lot of time worrying over SEO stuff. It's a waste of creative time, in my opinion. But, without doing anything more than posting a twitter about whatever article I have written on one of my sites ... it gets around through various twitter related sites, and brings in a little extra traffic. I don't think I have ever gotten a single hit from MySpace. Twitter seems to be the hot spot, right now.
