I was just rewatching this episode (it originally aired last week-2/18). On the plan, Jack asks Ben "How can you read?" and Ben says "My mother taught me"
The first time through, I laughed, but it just occurred to me-Ben's mom died giving birth. Was this a mistake, or do you think Ben's mom was on the island (the way dead people are often on the island) and taught him to read?
